The Coldest Day of the Year

The coldest days of the year are filled with ceremony and quiet gratitude, as I cover the tunnels to get them through. It brings me back to having my eyelashes frozen under the Northern Lights of a Sami community in northern Norway. The colours here are inside the tunnels and from my hand felted naturally dyed fabric, a guardian dragon and the rich woven blankets, graciously loaned from a Latvian client. There will be some losses but we need this cold and so I celebrate. The winter gardening gives a silver lining to our warmer and erratic winters. This season, however, the cold has been gold.
